see c.c.

I am a kid from the 80's which means, yes, I have at one time had a crush on one c.c. deville from poison. so you can imagine my surprise when I saw him running down la cienega today. I was on my way back from agape and I saw what appeared to be a homeless man sweating it up in a sweat suit but upon further inspection it was in fact my girlhood crush, c.c. glad to see his days of detox are still around.

my pretty valentine

I asked my parents to send me some flowers for valentine's day. it may appear to be somewhat pathetic but I really wanted to be looking at some live flowers on vday if any of the other gentlemen callers didnt come thru. they ended up sending me (they did it even before I asked which is the mark of a true valentine) a lovely bouquet of lillies and some other purple stuff from proflowers. although I appreciate the gesture, the flowers came direct from the grower and were closed. I actually like the idea of watching them open and having them in full bloom for a while reminding me of what lovely valentines I have, however if you are buying flowers for your beloved to be delivered, I would highly suggest getting them online from martha stewart. she has an incredible selection which is reasonably priced and the flowers last and last and last (hopefully like your lover does tonite. ew, thats gross).

bitch

a couple of years ago, I created a female-friendly group called bitch. it was just that, a bunch of bitches getting together to, well, bitch. I have since left my post as grand poobah but andi has kept it going strong for some time now. she had a lovely clothes swap last sunday night where we had a fashion show and got to give and get some clothes and drink wine and bitch at her new salon, byu-ti. it was bitchin.

trunk show trouble

headed over to barney's in bev hills for the jennifer meyer trunk show. you may know jennifer as the jewelry designer who just had a kid with her fiance tobey mcguire (and daughter of universal honcho, ron meyer). it was busy in barney's and there was a nice and friendly turn-out for her show which was in the jewlery section downstairs. champagne and biscuits flowed as did questions of the new baby and tobey (did u know that spidey first considers hisself a poker player and then an actor? random hollywood tip of the day). jennifer was sweet, as were the pieces of gold necklace charms of elephants, wishbones that retail for over $1000. she had some nice, simple rings and great ruby-encrusted hearts (maybe made for her new daughter ruby?) and keys and signature feathers to wear around the neck. I caught a quick shot of the rings before being booted from barney's for having a camera. such is the life of a trendster.

bad girl

this show is like candy. you know its bad for you but you can't get enough.

when doves cry

move over owl, I see a dove trend coming on. there must be peace in the air.

thursday night

I went out with my strong island sista, jackie jewels last night. we first hit up the bar at penninsula which was laughable because it packed with old people. I mean, reeeeally old people. there were three older gentleman at the bar sleeping fer peter's sake!? after two glasses of wine and some good convo, we decided to try out winstons. I hear its the night to go on a thursday. a friend also said its packed with cutie boys including jake gyllenhaal who is a regular... and who doesn't want to see him? no such luck. they tell you there is never a line there which is not true. we waited. and jackie's a hot chick so you know they got door action going on. if you're going, I recommend making a reservation. they'll ask at the door. we eventually did get in, took a quick look around and split. the crowd wasn't worth missing my tivo'd 30 rock for.

ex-boyfriends love molton brown

it seems as though throughout my long term relationships with men, I introduce them to certain metrosexual products, namely the molton brown line. I popped in to david's last week and he had just ordered the relaxing yuan zhi body wash, who he had emailed another ex, adam (who is into the black pepper) to get the name of!? ha. too funny. jim, dan and mark take note: I'm now on to thymes eucalyptus wash.

do u wanna drive in my mercedes benz fashion week?

today is a big day for ny fashion week with the marc jacobs, oscar de la renta, carolina herrera, jovovich-hawk and more shows happening in the tents and beyond. it seems as though, the ny fashion week pendulum has swung back to the side where style society rules and the parties and appearances are the thing. everyone from andre lt to susan sarandon to zooey deschanel singing up a runway storm are in new york and ready to put their most fashionable mary jane foward. still on the checklist for the upcoming seasons are the super short minis and metallics but there also has been an onslaught of ill-fitting euro-gypsy looks that don't quite match the potential of its creators. it will be interesting to see what looks will be ripped off, watered down and sold off in the h&m's, targets and forever 21s. thats the stamp of true style. I say keep an eye out for rag and bone , rock n' republic, rachel roy, roland mouret and other R named designers. if you're in new york and can't get a seat at the marc jacobs show, try and hit up the girls night out party with iVillage.

h&m q&a

you can take the girl out of long island but you can't the long island out of the girl. translation: I love me some malls. I headed to the bev center yesterday in search of a perfect pair of wide-leg paige denim and ended up popping in to the new h&m. I have been to h&m's all over the world and have gathered quite a collection of easy to wear and tear funky pieces so you can imagine my excitement to step into the newest los angeles location. two words: major disappointment. I don't know who is buying over but it looks like they are trying to compete with the XXI across the way. they've set up the merch to showcase the flimsiest and cheapest looking of their budget couture annnnnd the best stuff isn't in the store selection. what is going on here? this is just another example of how los angeles is its own wild and weird bubble on this side of the states. in new york, paris and geneve, girls scour racks for unique pieces at cheap prices and rock out like a kate moss-inspired rock star. after the bummer trip, I did as subliminally instructed and headed over to the XXI where I picked out a couple of very cute minis for under $50. also, with all of this metallic talk, keep an eye out for wet seal which has great cheapie metallic fabrics under ten bux. they also had a pair of pink jellies that I picked for five bux. I had the same pair a couple of seasons ago except they were ferragamo and had a triple digit price tag. bottom line is do not discount the discount. did I just say that? uhhh, yeah, I did.

chateau celeb sightings

one of my new years resolutions was to get back out on to the social circuit and be with as many friends and share as many laughs as possible. my favorite place to hang, either for an early latte or a friendly lunch or even a business dinner is hands down, the chateau marmont. I can't get enough of this place. it is saturated with the old hollywood glamour that I love so much, in addition, it is saturated with every celebrity you can imagine. and they're so chill there that you can hang out on the back patio for lunch with the olsen twins while famke janssen's dog jumps on your lap. literally, this is what went down today. both olsen sisters were there drinking wine, smoking cigs and with fork and knife, eating...lettuce. no joke. it was like an US weekly come to life. famke was there with the dog as was richard belzer with his dog. I was there yesterday as well (do we see a pattern here? I want to live at this joint) and got to see heather graham, salma hayek and seth meyers. oh my! and course today at my lunch with lizzy p. was the biggest v.i.p. of them all, cash hatosy (pictured above).

le doo

had dinner with the wittens last night at boa which is always a nice evening out. with pilot season in full swing, there is no shortage of wannabe studs strutting the city and looking for stardom. I fell in to this category last night when I agreed to meet up with a friend from new york who is out here with four friends from new york for pilot season. ended up heading over to les deux, lonnie and boogie's place that's all the rage these days. saw david's good friend, dr. will kirby (who was oddly enough wearing actual doctor scrubs) who I had never met before so that was cool. and the scene in the bathroom of the girls programming ceos and producers numbers into their phones off of business cards was worthy of its own saturday night live skit. it ended up actually being a really fun night of new yorkers. sadly there were no brit sightings.

I heart this stuff.

I was at the rite-aid on sunset today and picked up this super cute nail polish in preperation for valentine's day.

days of wine and fake roses.

in getting my new place together, I got really into the fake flowers. they're a great alternative to the real thing as they're always in bloom, have terrific color and you never need to take care of them. if you need a change, throw em out and buy new ones. I get my silk fix at michael's on the cheap.

scales and scuffs and flakes, oh dry!

I know being miss trendster and all that I should have the answers to all things lifestyle, but I'm in a bit of a quandry. my skin is dryer than dry. like firewood. I've tried everything -- my new TOCCA body lotion in stella, baby oil, gatorade even coconut milk. nothing. nada. nun. who out there knows of a good dry skin remedy? holla at at me and give a sister a hand (creme).

ouchie.

back in new york, me and cait took a jazzercise class at the extreme gym down the corner. it was so much fun that I was inspired to look up a jazzercise course here in my area. I found one but forgot that it was on monday nights and instead headed to bootcamp at the Y last night. it was my first time back in a loooong time. at some point, during the bunny hops on the step, my plastic step fell out from under me and I ended up flat, literally laying on the floor. I also ended up with a big fat bruise. no pain, no gain.

kickin it at stinkos.

I'm in love with kinkos. I dont know what the deal is. is it the orderly aesthetic? I repeatedly come back throughout the day. I'm here right now posting this. who comes here on a saturday night? I do. I'm usually using the color printers and the machine that blows up xerox copies to enormous sizes. or fedexing. the laminating machine is cool too. especially when you want to make a personalized placemat or bookmark. if this were an aptitude test, I am to kinko's as perez hilton is to the coffee bean.

rave on

with all this talk of metallics and neon, one might think there will be a reemergence of rave culture. egad.

bag lady

have you checked out the totally awesome bag collection from banana republic? totally awesome!

mi gusto chili-mango

I am seriously addicted to chili-mango. I'm all bout it bout it. especially the fresh snack packs at the farmer's market. ay carrumba!

i love you more than you know.

I have discovered my newest favorite author. actually the guys at kimmel did and somehow he got watered down to me. jonathan ames. so funny. I laugh out loud every night as I lie in bed and read this guy. my neighbors must think I'm coconuts. I read wake up, sir! over the summer in sardinia and couldn't get enough. gone are the days of hunter thompson worship. a new sheriff, albeit a screwy, wirey new york art freak one, but a new sheriff is in town.

rocky.

a friend had a screener of rocky balboa that I watched in such delight. I loooove the rocky franchise and this is no exception. I give this film twenty thumbs up. full of truth, grit and heart. sylvestor stallone is a genius. with the exception of that rhinestone joint.

buzzy lil bee.

I had a fab shoot yesterday with citybuzz. ngaire and andi were over early to do my hair and makeup then I headed over to hollywood and highland to do some standups for the gig. we ended up getting a hotel room at the renaissance to shoot our voice-over work in. it was a beautiful room with a beautiful view of the hills as the sun set. the crew was great. I had a blast. look for the citybuzz name at your local LAX in the coming weeks. afterwards I headed out to dinner with friends. we wanted to go to the new village idiot but like anything in this town that resembles a new york spot, there was a two hour wait. we ended up at bld on beverly and although we requested a red wine from spain that a few days back my sommelier friend adam said is the thing to be drinking these days, we ended up sipping on a nice cab from chile.

koi poloi.

after a long day of shooting with the fashion five, I met up with the modern girls for dinner and drinks at my fave l.a. spot, koi. as we arrived ashlee simpson was walking in, rocking a black, patent leather fendi b. fendi bag and looking suspiciously like an olsen twin. she was there to meet her sis, jess. we also caught a glimpse of a fresh outta bed kelly clarkson annnd I said hellos to brittny gastineau who I did that kms event with a few months back. we had yummy sticky rice and tuna with even yummier drinks. alot of them. claudia had green tea coz she had to be up in the morning to shoot deal or no deal. afterwards, eva's sister nikka and I headed to hyde.

keeping it fake.

was down on santee alley today on a shoot for the fashion five. it aint no canal street, but dang it, I love a good knock-off.

gotta love the love.

did I mention lisa anne and the twice-emmy award nominated jon corn got married? yup. in vegas. at the mandalay bay chapel. if any of you are thinking about hitched, vegas is a really fun and inexpensive way to do it right. this was one of the most lovely weddings I've ever been to and I'm not just saying that coz I love the couple foreva eva. afterwards, l.a.'s sister amy, took out the v.i.p. section at forty deuce and we danced until dawn then hit the blackjack to gamble the rest of our money away. mazel tov kids.

bug.

I got sick last week. I'm not sure how it happened but whoomp, there it is and I've been gallantly suffering through it for days. I thought through the power of my mind I'd be able to get over it in a jiff, however, my body disagrees and I've been waiting it out anxiously/patiently. worst of it is my cable is not on in my new place so I'm watching a ton of dvds and reading and sleeping alot. I guess thats what you do when you're sick, yeah? time warner comes next monday (sheesh) so I will miss the golden globes and american idol. I do have an academy screener of little children, breakfast at tiffany's and murder one up on deck to watch, so it aint all bread and water. I've already read the sunday new york times twice today and its already monday. oh yes, happy MLK day. awareness and love and new thoughts are what we as like souls should practice and pass on every day. peace out my brothers and sisters. its back to the couch with me.

mon petit chu chu

my sister is much cooler than me.

back from the bvi, new years babies...

ok, so its already been a week that I've been back from the british virgin islands, but it actually took me that long to decompress from the best freekin' trip of my entire life. me, nicole, meg and laura headed down for new years and rocked the jolly roger inn the entire week long stay. our first night in, mark hosted a mustache party in our honor at the b.v.i. yacht club. it was on after that. the b.v.i. is one of the most beautiful places and has the most beautiful people I have ever seen and this trendster highly recommends getting down there. it's a sailing community so charter a boat so you can sail the islands. it's alot easier than it sounds with flights costing only 300 bux or so from JFK. the best eats are the chicken roti at the jolly roger inn, the best drink is the rum punch made by randy at mulligan's in nanny cay and the best time you will ever have in your life is at the bomba shack full moon party. one love.

end of days (in 2006)

left l.i. yesterday to mainline nyc straight into the veins before heading out to BVI, tortola tonite. hooked up with meg and nicole and sam. we had yumy sushi across the street from megs place on 1st and 1st. met the band army of me at the restaurant who were playing the bowery ballroom last night. they invited us to the show which we headed to after large amounts of sake and edamame. ended up catching the last part of their set and then got totally turned on to the headlining band, men women and children. this trendster highly suggests checking them out. after the show, we said our goodbyes and headed back to catch some zzz's. came home to an email from nicole's beau in the BVI who is throwing a mustache party for us upon our arrival. today I am checking out the bodies exhibit at the southstreet seaport, picking up a couple of much needed last-minute travel items (including a laura mercier lip gloss and stila cheek stain in petunia) and meeting cait and michael at panna II (my fave ny indian joint. go!), before leaving to ring in 2007 right. not a bad second to last day of the year rounding out a really great year.

merry christmas, ya'll

I effin love xmas. got great gifts like a digi cam, white hotel sheets with black piping, betsey johnson shades and a tool kit. cait got tod's shoes and kate spade wellies, a barney's coat and a wicked awesome blender. my mom got two little blue boxes this year. a ceramic jewlery box from me and cait and a beautiful gold and mother of pearl necklace from my pops. clothes and accessories are the new toys. went to aunt marilyns, did the feast of the seven fishes thing. went to uncle mikes, did the nine hour italian dinner thing. just got home and headed to the movies with cait and michael to see blood diamond. it was incredible. leo is incredible. the movie is incredible. I said that. boycott diamonds. those things are bad news bears.

the style world according to richard zaino

when I come home to long island for the holidays, I seriously revert back to being an 8 year old. I wear the same over-sized sweatshirt for days in a row with no thought to what the peeps at the smithhaven mall think. wellllll, last night, we were heading out to pick up some gifts for my dad's secretaries (by the way, we picked out three very yummy smelling, over-sized candles for $5 each at marshalls. that added with a beautiful holiday bag made for an inexpensive and great looking gift) and he refused he go out with me looking like a ragamuffin. his very opinionated thought was why go out in your pajama top and big jeans when you can throw on a nice sweater and normal fitted pants because you dont who you are going to run in to or what impression you will need to make. I agree. I'm lazy about but I agree. there you have it folks - if it weren't for my dad, I would be talking trends in a flannel set from old navy and who the heck would be listening then?

crafty gift in a flash

with only a couple of days of gift buying left, here's a fun and easy way to surprise your friends with something sassy -- stationary!!!!! I'm in new york with the fam for the holidays and yesterday me and cait headed to joann craft store and picked up blank note cards and envelopes for $5.99 and a set of large courier font alphabet stamps for $9.99 and made personalized stationary for all the friends and cousins in our big italian fam. stamp out the names on the front of the note card, tie up five pieces with envelopes with pretty red ribbon and voila! you made someone very happy (and saved some cash too!). merry chanukah. xoxo.

in the mucky muck

I loved these textured wellies from j.crew so much, that I ditched the winter uggs and bought the last display in the store that isnt even in my size.

new years trendz

Yup, it’s that time again when the apple drops, another year has passed and a whole new line of fashion moves us forward into the future. When it comes to clothes, think glamorous 1950’s starlet. Fitted, lady like pieces with lots of soft layering. Scarlett Johanssen is a perfect example of a curvy girl who dresses to impress. Make sure to pick something pretty that is heavy on prints – plaid, animal, crests and bad girl skulls are a few of the patterns we have to choose from in the New Year. Also, lady-like lace embellishments. Benhaz’s go international collection at target has some fun and frilly pieces adorned with lace perfect for the new year. Not that we’ve got the top figured out lets address your bottom and everyone wants their bottom to look banging. The new year will ring in a slew of jeans that are much wider at the foot. The pendulum is swinging back toward wide-leg bellish bottoms. Justin Timberlake’s line William Rast has a fab pair of ‘belle’ stretch jeans. Whether its boot cut or skinny, I am a true blue fan of the 7 for all makind line and feel every woman will find something she likes from their collection. Leggings are also sticking around and look sassy when paired with oversized tops and cinch-waist belts. Accessories are your cherries on top and this year is no exception when it comes to pieces that make bold statements. Lots of Black and gold popping up in handbags and jewelry. Oversized gold pieces for your neck, wrists and fingers. Cleopatra has got nothing on you. Keeping with the oversized theme, your bag should be BIG for daytime. Buti’s large handheld bag is one of my faves. Large slouch/hobo bags with rich fabrics like heavy leather, suede and wool. When it comes to night-time make sure you have a fun wristlet that fits all of your necessary accouterments but still looks fun and flirty. Something we are seeing a lot of this year is gloves. Yummy, buttery leather of all lengths worn outside or in for a chic finish to any frock. Yup, Gloves are back big time! And finally we finish it off at the feet. Nothing says hello! Like heels. This year we are seeing the platform sole which with its heftier sole balances out a fitted-top and the season’s wide-leg pant. if you look around you’ll see its boots that are made for walking. From ankle booties to slouch boots to lace up boots, you’re bound to find a style that sexes up your look. Ok for folks, that’s it for me on the fashion trends of 2007. I wish the happiest of happy and the merriest of merry.

save the eggs!

me, bree and wendi got up super duper early and did the ovarian cancer friendship run/walk for cedars sinai. it was really fun. there were calvaries of ROTC army men running and yelling something about doing good in unison. sir yessir. we saw many good looking people this early in the AM and figured that good karma (and looks) do go to those who do this sort of thing. we were given t-shirts to wear for the walk and for a second we thought about tricking them out but realized it was 6am in the morning and we would take our chances looking like dorks if it means fighting the fight against ovarian cancer. p.s. if you're a women and reading this, schedule an appt. with your gyno to get the cervical cancer vaccine shot asap.

fashion is funny

sometimes I think the designers of today are just taking the piss. have you caught the oversized chanel plastic carryall? it literally looks like a black garbage bag but they've managed to add a double C charm to it and stick a $1000. price tag on. that's funny. how about gaultier's super-sized model in the paris runway shows? I'm sure her use was to be provactive from the backlash of the madris skinny model setback, but she was just that. used. funny? fashion is not saving the world so we cant take it too seriously so when gals get serious with such obvious attempts at irreverence, we must step back and laugh.

raised eyebrows

went to go see my friend damone roberts, the eyebrow king of beverly hills today. I am doing s new headshot photog session with ingrid next week in addition to shooting a how do I look? so I need my brows looking their best. I asked damone what the current beauty trend for eyebrow shaping is and he said still natural, not super arched. think brooke shields early eighties.

third world thoughts

just got back from a week long trek thru the nicaraguan and costa rican jungles with cailtin (my sis who is currently living in nicaragua). we had no cell or internet service down there as the country is truly the second poorest in central america with little to no civilized features. I wish I could do a report on the cultural fashions, however these people are just trying to survive. sad but true. I think every paris hilton, lindsay lohan and brit spears should take a trip down to these parts of our continent to catch a glimpse of what poverty is and how excessive and truly truly lucky we are to live in the u.s.a. such a luxury is taken for granted so its imperative to be reminded of our status in this world. we did end up staying in a little piece of heaven called the panacea de la montana in the mountains of playa tamarindo in costa rica. we had an unbelievable time at the yoga retreat and hope to go back again and again. I was thankful to be in such a place on thanksgiving which in turn shed light on my many thanks for my lovely life. asta la

sample platter

monday's daily candy was a listing of several sample sales all happening this week, so I figured why not throw some money towards some good causes and pick up some hot half-priced haute. I just got back from sample angel. it was in the area so very convenient to walk to. they had some great catherine malandrino there including a tiffany blue trench that was still too much for my money's worth but pretty all the same. sanaa lathan was there from nip/tuck sans her kidney cutting tools. I walked away with a fab pair of golddigger james jeans for $95. regularly priced at $200. so that was a steal and felt good for a good cause too!

does this hamburger make me look fat?

as I've mentioned before, I am big fan of the sunday new york times. this week's style magazine section is *to quote david* the bomb. its all about food and style which if you think about it, is an art form filled with rich colors that stimulate all of your senses. I especially liked the section on celebrity photog and creator of wireimage, jeff vespa's muse du jour, L.A. hamburgers. I wish a hamburger was in my diet. Im currently on the zone which is fab and great and working but tough when I have visions of pinkberry dancing in me head.

david on howard stern

I am a serious sirius fan. david hooked up my ride with a whole sirius set up making it easy for me to be absolutely addicted to howard stern, of whom I've been a long time fan. turns out david used to be part of the wack pack as the king of all song parodies!? he made his triumphant return to the show yesterday when howard big upped david's blog, the digital couch on the show. david does reviews of the television shows he so loves and loathes and gave the gary roast an A+ which howard mentioned on the air. it was so funny to hear unexpected and out of the blue and a huge boost to my man's ego that the king of all media is up on his stuff.

aloha.

sometimes you have to take a vacation from your vacation, ya know? that's what I've been doing. keeping it underground. on the DL. get all howard hughes like. david and I got back from a week in maui, hawaii which was awesome. we snorkeled with tropical fish, ate luau pig and poi, listened to IZ and jumped off waterfalls. david even swam in the ocean at night. hawaii is truly an eco-paradise. mahalo.

no need to leave, google it here
