A Very Merry Holiday

I love the holidays. Our family together, who come from all over the world, and as close as down the block. The food (mostly the cookies). Averting the naughty list and receiving the beautiful gifts on my nice list. Santa brought me a fab new laptop of which I am writing this post on. Maj bought me a stunning amethyst stone, for physical protection and mental clarity, hanging from a perfect 13" gold chain. I am so grateful and in a humble position to give. So, I give thanks And compassion. And the universal reflection that as life changes quickly around us, let us be kind to one another, and pliable to bend to the Earth's evolution. Here's to an undoubtedly adventurous 2012.

On the 3rd Day of Christmas

I love starting the new year off right with a few choice outfits that define my style for the year. Lordy knows I'm maturing when St. John is the store I'd most love a thing or two from. Their ad campaigns which first included Angelina Jolie and now the impeccable Kate Winslet, make an effortless knit and offer a streamlined style worthy of any Kate Middleton appearance. If St. John ain't yo' thang, ask Santa for a gift card to your favorite store, so you too can seasonally shop 'til you drop.

On the 3rd Day of Christmas

Every Christmas Eve, my thirty-something cousin Bobby dresses up like Santa Claus and brings our big, Italian family, a perfectly wrapped gift of pajamas. All twenty-something of us, who are now all over thirty years old, change into the PJs and head to bed to wait for Santa's morning bounty. I'm hoping this year, to get these luxe VS Afterhours Satin Pajama from Victoria's Secret. I love the Beverly Hills Hotel inspired stripes and the silky fabric perfect for opening gifts in.

On the 9th Day of Christmas

I ask for these Jonathan Adler Jet Set candles on every special occassion. The packaging is so stylish that I use it, by the front door, to collect our coins. And the musky, dense dew-y Big Sur sent, lit on my desk whilst working, is divine.

Scented Style

As a kid in the 80's, I owned more than one non-food product that was scented to smell like my favorite things. I had a collection of Strawberry Shortcake figures that were scented like their names such as Blueberry Muffin and Lemon Meringue. A book of scratch n' sniff stickers. And of course, the scented Swatch watch, my most treasured accessory. With a big style shoot happening tomorrow, I stopped into my local salon for mani / pedi and picked a bubble gum pink, that when applied, smells of actual pink bubble gum?!?! I'm smelling my fingers right now and sure enough - bubble gum! I can't believe it. It brought me right back to my time as a kid. And when I posted it on FB, and Julie said there were scented flip flops on the market, well, this product of the 80's couldn't resist. Yes, there are scented flip flops available. And sheets. And shirts. Who nose what else is out there? Ha.

I'm in love with my Boyfriend!

The bag du jour, the chicest treat to hit the trendy set, is the Chanel Boyfriend bag. Structured, classic, leather craftsmanship with a signature Chanel chain link strap and in a variety of colors and styles. Le sigh. I am in love. It goes perfectly with my Boyfriend Shirt from Sew, my J Crew boyfriend jeans and of course, with my actual boyfriend *wink*

Dana to the Maxx

For a Stylist, or Editor, or any trendsetting Blogger, these past few weeks have been filled with fashion previews. Which in lay terms, is a showing of a brand's collection for the following season. Target looks great for Spring / Summer 2012 with a Jason Wu for Target collection and lot of juicy colored shiny rain slickers. Remember your yellow raincoat of yesteryear? Well, its coming back in purple, red and turquoise! Ban.do is doing amazing things with accessories that include crystal bowtie shoe clips. And then of course, there is the up and coming designer, that you stumble upon, in a fashion preview haze that makes fashion look a whole lot more clear. For me, that is designer Dana-Maxx. A very cool girl with fiery red hair and lips taking the technicals of fashion and mixing it with her love of style to create a perfect dress for all of us. Already seen on All on the Line with Joe Zee and as a Glamour ambassador, the S / S 2012 Dana-Maxx collection is filled with coral, vintage-inspired reds and both structured like the Chrsyler building and flowy in fabric. Genius. Like her on FB, here, to keep in the loop on the latest and greatest hidden gem dresses Ms. Dana-Maxx is making.

JZ hearts RZ

I watched four hours of The Rachel Zoe Project yesterday and even that wasn't enough. They are everything! While it's certainly fun to watch the fabulousness of their lives in fashion and stress, I love watching it for the design inspiration. I am a HUGE fan of Hollywood Glam home goods and anybody who's been to any of my New York and Hollywood homes, knows I love a misplaced crystal chandelier,D.I.Y. stripes in my bathroom, and a faux fur throw on anything. In my third hour of the RZ marathon, style assistant Jeremiah hooked up the new Zoe house with the freshest home looks. I'm glad they're leasing, as I've got that dream home in my sights.

And if you want to turn a hot RZ fashion look into something luxuriously lounge-y, her pre-push, sequence Halston dress, can be purchased here, for a Cheap Chic approved $20, as a pillow.

Cindy Sherman for MAC

Creepy or totally rad? Cindy Sherman, one of the most famous artists of the last century, has posed for photos promoting MAC's Fall Color Collection. The photographer and filmmaker (known for transforming herself through wigs, prosthetics and makeup) is seen wearing three distinct "faces" for the collection. Each represents a group of lipsticks, eyeliners, eyeshadows and other beauty essentials that can be used to create a look that's avant garde, classic or somewhere in between. Though Sherman is not involved with the creation of the collection, her likeness has definitely garnered tons of attention for it. The new collection is available now to creep you out where all MAC products are sold.

Cheap Chic: Vintage Chic by Jess Zaino for The Epoch Times

Vintage and thrift shopping has never been more accessible and chic as it is now. Across the globe, girls and guys who love to scour for that special designer find, get lucky in the most obscure places. The definition of vintage is ‘representing the high quality of a past time’, so much like a fine wine, an outfit that was considered du jour a decade ago, is now worth its weight in style. I live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and on my block alone, are six different thrift, consignment and vintage shops. I highly suggest a stop on the UES for any avid shopper that visits our city. The shops in my neighborhood, known for its more mature, affluent demographic, are stocked with the best vintage has to offer, as far as cheap chic finds are concerned. If you love a signature Chanel suit, you can expect to purchase one off the rack for a minimum of $5000. A leisurely stroll to sift through the merch of a consignment shop, especially on the UES of Manhattan will, on any given day, offer a pre-owned, perfectly preserved Chanel, for 5% of that price. There is nothing more chic than savings like that. And if conservative isn’t your thing, vintage includes rock n’ roll t-shirts from past decades at places like Electiques in Soho , where you will find a stand-out assortment of vintage Louis Vuitton luggage, from suitcases to steamer trunks, amongst an original 1976 Black Sabbath concert tour tee. My personal favorite is Designer Resale by Myrna Skoller on East 81st Street where, upon entering the huge, underground store, you can find an early 1980’s Betsey Johnson, hanging next to a Zac Posen piece from his debut collection, next to a Lela Rose suit set from last year, all retailing for less than $500. A true, appreciated Cheap Chic vintage.
