I worked at sew nyc on mott st. as a shop girl when I made the move back from los angeles a few years ago. it was there, that I learned, from octogenarian artie wasserberger, son and owner, scott and russian tailor, zino, the fine art of hand crafting menswear. it is also, where I collaborated with SEW owner, scott wasserberger on the tre chic boyfriend shirt. for the full photo set and product details from the boyfriend shirt shoot at the tribeca grand with photog, m. david leeds, click here. get your own boyfriend by calling 212-686-1630. and new glamour post up here!

Who is YOUR favorite Indie Designer?
My latest post on Glamour celebrates the Indie Designer of who I always support. It was on the eve of her Fall-Winter 2011 fashion show, I was invited downtown for a pre-show fitting by budding fashion designer, Sheila Frank. The color story, composed primarily of midnight navy and black, reminds one of an 18th century factory. While handmade production was overtaken by machine production during the Industrial Revolution, make no mistake about it, Frank's collection is carefully crafted with intricate details and hand sewn attention to each willowy black and gauze-y blue garment. Which you can view the full photo set here. Who do you think is an Indie Designer to watch? Post your comments here.

online or hard copy?

mercedes benz fashion week is right around the corner so invites are swiftly making their way to the fashion elite. turns out, I'm considered included in this group, so woe! is me, my mailbox is filling up with invites of all shapes, sizes and weights. additionally, I get the online invites too, which usually come accompanied with a yes or no reply box. easy peasy. so, my question is, is it better to receive a gorgeous invite with all of the fashion week fixins in the mailbox or does an eco-friendly email pack the same fancy pants punch. you decide...

boyfriend chic

last night, my boyfriend, majed and I had tickets to a broadway show. so, we thought it nice to get spiffed up for one another and hit the town proper date style. I wore my gorgeous virgin lambswool prada black dress that evokes madonna in the dolce & gabbana ads and he wore... a denim button down and structured black suit jacket. and despite my repeated attempts at offering my style expert opinion that the two just don't mesh, majed was convinced that he was experimenting with the jeans and jacket look, and this was his interpretation. adorable. what can I say? he has a great tush!

au natural

I'm seeing and feeling, as most are, a 2011 shift. I don't know if it has something to do with the horoscope change or the end of the mayan calendar, but there is a definite shift in perception. in focus. even in, color!?!? despite Winter, we are moving from black and into a chocolate-y brown. the most obvious of this trend shift is in the natural colored heels that have hit the spring 2011 market. make sure to invest an incredible durable pair and wear your nude with pride!

too hot to polka dot

it's the season of the polka dot apparently. everyone who is anyone is rocking the retro trend and the fact that the cover of vogue has dots, solidifies its status. I'm still not quite convinced, as it seems a tad childish, a little bit minnie mouse. and what a strange choice for winter. that said, I had a lovely moschino number that was fitted to a T and an absolute dream of dark blue with small red dots but I've sadly, since donated the piece. c'est le fashion.

a precious stone gathers no moss

I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing ms. erica levine of ricki l. jewelry in late december, whose pieces double as fine art. her cocktail rings come live and direct from the caves of a foreign land and are bigger than your head. give this a read and give this woman some love. she is lovely and I'm thrilled her (and my) story made the trade. click here to read.

my newest crush

I am currently crushing on zara, the international brand that lucky for us, is in most US malls. they have everything my fashion heart desires and for most looks under $100. I snapped a pic of this luxurious faux fur wrap vest with adorable and effortless brown belt, all for $70!? They have animal prints in the chicest places and their fits equal their buyer-friendly price tag. gift certificate anyone?

button up

I came across the above candid shot of the uber cool nicole richie and I am now on an obsessivo hunt for the perfect structured navy blue with gold buttons blazer. I have a great one I picked up at barney's from theory but it doesn't quite do the job. and I have a lovely little boys school jacket but there is no curve so that too doesn;t measure up. where oh! where are you perfect casual yet structured jacket?

cowl's are zing

chunky knits are the rage this winter season and I cannot get enough of the homemade, chunky, necky, comfy cowl to wear over tees and under winter coats. etsy is a perfect place to start.

thrift store nation

the UES is home to a sh*t ton of thrift stores. really. like one or two per block. makes one wonder how the shops stay in business in this bad economy. they stay in business coz each is PACKED!? I popped in to housing works on 77th today. random 4pm visit on a random wednesday afternoon and sure enough the party was bumping. tons of great finds including the adorable patchwork shoulder bags and nifty ombre disco dress pictured above. for a great cause as well. makes me reevaluate my holiday shopping strategy....hmmmm......

she's got l'eggs

leggings have become a closet staple in the past few years so it's important to find a brand that fits because ladies, you know, we wear them over and over and over again. my favorite legging find is not a pant, but a tight and an opaque one at that. a drugstore brand I trust is the old school egg, l'eggs in black. for less than $10 this is a perfect winter accompaniment with over the knee riding boots and heels (especially cute peep-toe, wooden soled ones). and if you're looking for a more traditional legging, BL BODY shapewear, which is the shapewear brand from NBC's Biggest Loser has some pretty great stuff at pretty great prices which tone making your assets look pretty great. legs up!

true blue

I have a big week. with some important meetings and two television shoots. which means I am in need of a mani. I want something fun and trendy for fall. my all too loved go-to red needs to step aside for the moment and Imma let my true blue shine thru. It's been on all of the runways and it's different and it's my first time, so I am actually nervous. eek. will it complement my skin tone? my outfit? can u believe I think about this decision for more than five minutes?! high class problems people. I love the ritual of going in, picking a color and the hour long craftmanship of a local cheapie hood place. what color is on your nails this week?

NYFW Trend Watch #2: Denim Do's

I admit it. I've been a flip-flopper on the whole denim issue. One day I love denim and the next day I loathe it. Having been out and about on the Fashion Week scene this week, I can confirm that denim is here to stay! And not just denim, but skinny denim. Everywhere. I found a favorite pair at Macy's in the Material Girl collection. Not necessarily nicely made but fit perfectly and on trend with a high waisted top. And if not her, every brand has a pair! Some good brands to stick by Jessica Simpson, always Levis, Converse at Target. if you're looking to spend $$ J Brand, Paige, Joe... Wear with flats or on special nights heels. Chuck Taylors also work... Do u have a pair?? A great cashmere vneck for Fall or beautifully fitted tees with "the necklace" or a long skinny one strand pearl-like necklace is a good pair!
